CrossFit, HYROX or DEKA? Choose according to your personality

All three are going to make you suffer. The question is how you prefer to do it. Quick test to choose your next competition.

STREETWOD·

There are three great ways to pay for suffering in a pavilion: CrossFit, HYROX and DEKA. All three are demanding, all three leave you on the floor and all three have fans who will recommend them to you with a twinkle in their eyes. To choose, don't look at your physical condition. Look at your personality.

Choose CrossFit if..

  • You get bored doing the same thing twice
  • You like to open the Open announcement with the excitement of a child in Epiphany and the fear of an adult paying a mortgage
  • You enjoy learning skills: muscle-ups, handstands, weightlifting. And getting frustrated with them for years
  • You need training to surprise you. For better or worse, but let it surprise you. The good: You never get bored and you develop a little of everything: strength, endurance, technique, coordination. The bad: there will always be something you don't know how to do. Always. It's part of the charm. Your phrase: "What's up today?"

Choose HYROX if..

  • You like to know exactly what awaits you: eight kilometers, eight stations, always the same
  • It motivates you to compare yourself with everyone in a global ranking
  • You have the profile of a runner who has grown tired of running alone
  • You like the atmosphere of a large event, with music, audiences and lights. The good: you can train specifically and measure your progress from race to race very accurately. The bad: eight kilometers is eight kilometers.

If you hate running, you're going to have a bad time. Or bad. Your phrase: "This year I'm under time."

Choose DEKA if..

  • You want something similar to HYROX but with more variety: ten different zones
  • You prefer short running sections, 500 meters, instead of entire kilometers
  • You like to have options: DEKA FIT with a 5 km run, DEKA MILE with a 1.6 km or DEKA STRONG without running
  • It's fun for you to discover what a RAM is. (A weighted tube. You'll quickly get sick of it.)

The good: The three formats allow you to start with the version that best suits you. The bad: some areas use material that is not available in all the gyms, so you have to improvise when training. Your phrase: "Is this zone 6 or 7?"

What they have in common

Although each has their fans and their rivalries, all three share the most important thing: a community that encourages you when you are about to give up, a goal that takes you out of the routine and a medal that you will keep in a drawer and look at from time to time with secret pride. Furthermore, they complement each other very well. The strength and variety base of the gym helps in HYROX and DEKA, and the endurance you gain preparing for races is noticeable in any long WOD.

What if I can't decide? Then you are one of us. Do all three. Train at the gym, sign up for a HYROX in the spring and try a DEKA in the fall. Your physio will thank you financially.

The definitive ten second test

Imagine that they tell you: "Tomorrow there is a surprise training session." - If you think "what a thrill": CrossFit

  • If you think "how much does one cum?": HYROX
  • If you think "is there any version without running?": DEKA STRONG
  • If you think "tomorrow I have a meeting": you need our excusometer.
